When a 6 year old outsmarts eleven adults
A true story..
A container truck got stuck under a low-level bridge. Why? Well because the driver simply misjudged the clearance height, wedging the massive vehicle tight under the lowest part of the bridge. He tried reversing and also slowly moving forward, but nothing gave.
What did the driver do? Well, he did what most would probably do, he looked to others for a solution. He phoned his employer to get advice. Within 3 hours another truck arrives, with metres of cable and industrial sized tow hooks ready to drag the truck out from its prison, with a considerable show of force. Doing so was bound to weaken the brickwork and possibly do more damage to the bridge. Eleven men, two of them engineers, were now standing around the truck desperately looking for the best way out.
A car driving in the opposite direction, with a mother and her son aged 6 years, slowed down to a crawl as it passed the massive container truck stuck fast. Mum explained what all the men are about to do, to free the vehicle.
“But mum, why don’t they let the types down, then they could move it?”
Sometimes it takes a simple clarity of mind to come up with the best solution to real-world problems.
